Aileen Wuornos was a serial killer who killed seven men while working as a prostitute in Florida. Wuornos claimed that these murders were done in self defence, and that these men had raped or attempted to rape her. She was found guilty and sentenced to death. Wuornos told many inconsistent stories about the murders, claiming in a documentary by Nick Broomfield that she had lied about her defence and had actually killed them in order to rob them. In a later interview, after she had been promised that the cameras weren’t rolling, she admitted that they had been in self defence but that she had changed her story as she was tired of being on death row and just wanted die. On the 9th of October 2002 Wuornos was executed by lethal injection.
